01. Health & Wealth
Those who promote this doctrine
(aka Name it & Claim it, Blab it & Grab it, etc)
This is a New Age
technique, called visualization. It
is basically where you visualize things in your mind, & if you concentrate
on it long enough & hard enough, then it will happen.
Many Christians fall into this, cause they are told that if
you speak good things, good things will happen to you, & conversely bad
things.
This is a part of the popular teaching promoted by Oprah
called “The Secret”. It is AKA the “Law of Attraction”,
& according to this, these irreversible laws govern the universe, &
faith is a force, kind of like what you have seen in Star Wars. There is a good
side to the force, as well as a Dark Side.
If you concentrate on the good side of the force you will
attract good things to you, & if you concentrate on the dark side of the
force, you will attract bad things to you.
There is no difference in The Secret & the positive confession from the Word of Faith movement.
What the Word of
Faith movement promotes is actually occultic, & it’s slipping in
unnoticed because many Christians DO NOT know their Bible!
The origins of the Word
of Faith movement can be traced back to Phineas Parkhurst Quimby,
who believed that he had rediscovered the lost healing methods of Jesus, which
later became known as New Thought, which was a
metaphysical cult...basically Spirit is good, matter is bad.
Mary Baker Eddy claimed she was healed by him, & took his
doctrines, developed them further & from that has been formed today what is
known as Christian Science.
Health is not a condition of matter, but of Mind.
We classify disease as error, which nothing but Truth or
Mind can heal.
EW Kenyon studied both PhineasParkhurst Quimby as well Mary Baker Eddy, & credited both w/influencing
his teachings.
EW Kenyon in turn
influenced Kenneth Hagin, who is regarded as the father of the Word
of Faith movement.
AW Tozer, That Incredible Christian, p68
…we must distinguish believing from visualizing. The two are
not the same. One is moral & the other mental.
Other names that the Word
of Faith are known as is New
Apostolic Reformation (NAR), Manifested
Sons of God & Latter Rain
movement.
In every instance,
the Word of Faith teaching is guilty
of presenting an inflated view of man & a deflated view of God, thereby
compromising God's message as revealed in the Bible.
A lot of what you see in the Word of Faith has just been repackaged from New Thought & Christian
Science.
For example, Christian Science believes that
sickness & disease has its roots in the mind & bad thoughts, just as
the Word of Faith movement teaches.
That’s why; if you know someone into the Word of Faith movement, when they get
sick they refuse to talk about it & even admit to being sick. They say the
symptoms are not real. They refuse to talk about it because it than makes it a
legitimate sickness & will only get worse.
Nowhere in the Bible does it teach that the people of God
are to use the same methods or power as the pagan people.
Deuteronomy 07.16
“16 “You shall consume all the peoples whom the LORD your God will deliver to
you; your eye shall not pity them, nor shall you serve their gods, for that would be a snare to you.”
Deuteronomy 07.25
“25 “The graven images of their gods you are to burn w/fire; you shall not
covet the silver or the gold that is on them, nor take it for yourselves, or
you will be snared by it, for it is an abomination to the LORD your God.”
Deuteronomy 12.02-03
“2 “You shall utterly destroy all the places where the nations whom you shall
dispossess serve their gods, on the high mountains & on the hills &
under every green tree. 3 “You shall tear down their altars & smash their sacred pillars & burn their Asherim w/fire,
& you shall cut down the engraved images of their gods & obliterate
their name from that place.”
Deuteronomy 12.30-31
“30 beware that you are not ensnared to follow them, after they are destroyed
before you, & that you do not inquire after their gods, saying, ‘How do
these nations serve their gods, that I also may do likewise?’ 31 “You shall not
behave thus toward the LORD your God, for every abominable act which the LORD
hates they have done for their gods; for they even burn their sons &
daughters in the fire to their gods.”
Deuteronomy 20.18
“18 so that they may not teach you to do according to all their detestable
things which they have done for their gods, so that you would sin against the
LORD your God.”
Deuteronomy 32.17
“17 “They sacrificed to demons who were not God, To gods whom they have not
known, New gods who came lately, Whom
your fathers did not dread.”
-One of the biggest proponents
of this doctrine is Benny Hinn, who stated that he never gets sick, & then in
another program, states that he was as sick as a dog!
Now how great was the faith of these people?
EW Kenyon died of a tumor
Kenneth Hagin died of heart
disease
Oral Roberts wore glasses, had
heart problems before he died
Jan Crouch has had gall bladder
surgery & been treated for cancer
Here are some more people who
involved in this movement…
-Kenneth & Gloria Copeland who
said, “God needs you rich”
I guess Kenneth Copeland doesn’t
know that Jesus said to the scribe who wanted to follow Jesus
Matthew 08.20 “20 Jesus said to him, “The
foxes have holes & the birds of the air have
nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.””
Or when Peter was confronted w/the
question about Jesus paying taxes, Jesus had no money on Him, so He sent Peter
to go & fish, & the 1st fish that comes up there will be a
shekel in it to pay the tax. (Matthew 17.24-27)
Matthew 17.27 “27 “However, so that we do not offend them, go to the sea &
throw in a hook, & take the first fish that comes up; & when you open
its mouth, you will find a shekel. Take that & give it to them for you &
Me.””
-Creflo Dollar Mentions
EW Kenyon & says that we are not to go to church to get fed the Word of
God!
I guess Creflo Dollar never read
that pastors are to shepherd the flock
Acts 20.28 “28 “Be on guard for yourselves & for all the flock,
among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers (G1985 episkope), to shepherd (G4165 root
word of G4166 poimen=to tend as a shepherd) the church of God which He purchased w/His
own blood.”
Pastors are to equip or build up
the saints
Ephesians 04.11-12 “11 And He gave some as
apostles, & some as prophets, &
some as evangelists, & some as pastors & teachers, 12 for the
equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body
of Christ;”
Paul told Timothy to accurately
handle the Word of God
2Timothy 02.15 “15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a
workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of
truth.”
When the Word of God is rightly
divided & taught, people are equipped
2Timothy 03.16-17 “16 All Scripture is inspired by God & profitable
for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; 17 so
that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.”
If a Pastor is accurately
teaching the Word, holding fast to it, he will be able to expose false
teachers, & thus instruct his hearers on how to do the same.
Titus 01.09 “9 holding fast the faithful word (G3056. logov
logos log'-os) which is in accordance w/the teaching, so that he will be
able both to exhort in sound doctrine & to refute those who contradict.”
John Hagee said that if we are not right w/God & Heaven, we
can’t get healed!
He also said that if we pray for someone to get healed,
& they don’t the fault is yours!
-Interesting note, about 06 months before he said this (Oct
2008); he was in the hospital having open-heart surgery because his arteries
were blocked.
So our question should be, “Why didn’t he command his arteries to clear
up?”
Interesting that what these Word of Faith teachers preach
DOES NOT work for them. If it doesn’t work for them, then why should we listen?
If this is true, why didn’t the great Apostle Paul heal
himself?
2Corinthians 12.07-10
“7 Because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations, for this reason, to
keep me from exalting myself, there was given me a thorn in the flesh, a
messenger of Satan to torment me--to keep me from exalting myself! 8 Concerning
this I implored the Lord three times that it might leave me. 9 And He has said
to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.”
Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the
power of Christ may dwell in me. 10 Therefore I am well content w/weaknesses, w/insults,
w/distresses, w/persecutions, w/difficulties, for Christ’s sake; for when I am
weak, then I am strong.”
TD Jakes (Modalist,
believes that there is only One God who manifests or reveals Himself as Father,
Son, & Holy Spirit. In modalism, God takes on different roles & He does
not eternally exist in 03 distinct Persons at the same time. God reveals
Himself as Father in creation, Son in Redemption & the Holy Spirit in the
church, but there is only one Person.
So simply put, Modalism teaches that God has simply revealed
Himself in 03 different modes, & that He is not 03 Persons, as the Bible
asserts.
On the church’s website, the
doctrinal statement begins “There is one
God, Creator of all things, infinitely perfect, & eternally existing in
three manifestations: Father, Son & Holy Spirit.”
Modalism’s great weakness is
that it cannot account for the relationship between the 03 persons of the
Trinity.
The persons w/in the Godhead are
eternal & distinct, & it is not that God just manifests Himself in 03
different roles.
It is a hard & difficult
thing for us to understand in are finite minds.
Joyce Meyer-Shes a woman
preacher who teaches men on a regular basis
1Timothy 02.12-14 “12 But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise
authority over a man, but to remain quiet. 13 For it was Adam who was first
created, & then Eve. 14 And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into
transgression.”
She can’t be the husband on one
wife…
1Timothy 03.02 “2 An overseer, then, must be above reproach, the
husband of one wife, temperate, prudent, respectable, hospitable, able to
teach,”
Titus 01.06 “6 namely, if
any man is above reproach, the husband of one wife, having children who
believe, not accused of dissipation or rebellion.”
