1Chronicles 29.10-20 l DAVID’S PRAYER

Today’s reading: 1Chronicles 27-29

1Chronicles 29.13 “13 “Now therefore, our God, we thank You, and praise Your glorious name.”

In todays reading, the chronicler gives us the military and political structure of Israel (1Chronicles 27), David’s speech about the Temple (1Chronicles28), offerings for the Temple (1Chronicles 29.01-09), the sacrifices, Solomon crown king again & the death of David (1Chronicles 29.21-30).

David blesses the LORD in worship and in prayer.

We see eight parts of David’s prayer:
01. He praises the LORD and acknowledges that He is the God of Israel, and spoke of the attributes of God (1Chronicles 29.10-11)
02. He mentions that the LORD is the One who gives strength (1Chronicles 29.12)
03. He then offers thanksgiving with praise (1Chronicles 29.13)
04. David acknowledges that the gifts the people just presented to the LORD (1Chronicles 29.01-09) are only possible because the LORD is the giver of all good gifts (1Chronicles 29.14-16; James 01.17)
05. God knows the heart of man (Jeremiah 17.09-10), and David knows that his and the peoples giving were done with pure motives and from the sincerity of their hearts (1Chronicles 29.17)
06. David asks the LORD, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel that He would keep the nation loyal and be firm towards the LORD (1Chronicles 29.18)
07. David prayed that the LORD would help keep Solomon faithful to the commandments of the LORD and the building of the Temple (1Chronicles 29.19)
08. David then asks those assembled to bless and praise the LORD (1Chronicles 29.20)
