Today’s reading: 2Chronicles 04-06
2Chronicles 06.18-20 “18
“But will God indeed dwell with mankind on the earth? Behold, heaven and the
highest heaven cannot contain You; how much less this house which I have built.
19 “Yet have regard to the prayer of Your servant and to his supplication, O
LORD my God, to listen to the cry and to the prayer which Your servant prays
before You; 20 that Your eye may be open toward this house day and night,
toward the place of which You have said that You would put Your name there, to listen to the prayer which Your
servant shall pray toward this place.”
In todays reading, the chronicler
gives us the furnishings of the Temple (2Chronicles 04), the bringing of the Ark
of the Covenant into the Temple (2Chronicles05.01-10), the glory of the LORD fills the Temple
(2Chronicles 05.11-14), Solomon blesses the people (2Chronicles 06.01-11), and his prayer of
dedication (2Chronicles 06.12-42).
Let us take a look at the order
and content of Solomon’s prayer of dedication and notice the similarities with
the model prayer that Jesus gave the disciples in Matthew 06.09-13.
01. He acknowledges there is no
other god in all the earth but the LORD God of Israel
