1Chronicles 17.10 “10 …Moreover,
I tell you that the LORD will build a house for you.”
In our reading for today, the
chronicler records David strengthening his kingdom (1Chronicles 18), the messengers sent from David to comfort Hanun
were completely humiliated, as well as the subsequent defeat of Ammon and Aram
(1Chronicles 19). He also records
the defeat of the relatives of Goliath (1Chronicles
20), possibly revealing why David took five smooth stones when he slew
Goliath (1Samuel 17; 2Samuel 21.15-22).
David desired to build a house for
the LORD (1Chronicles 17.01-02), but
the LORD came to Nathan the prophet and told him that He didn’t want David to
build a house, but instead the LORD will build a house for David (1Chronicles 17.03-15).
When the LORD said that He would
build a house for David (1Chronicles 17.10),
He was telling David that He was going to make a dynasty out of the house of
David, but also that from David there will come HaMashiach, the Messiah, the
Christ, the Anointed One, the One who will come to take away the sins of the
world!
From this time on, one of the
names for the Messiah was Mashiach Ben-David, the Messiah Son of David (Matthew 09.27; Matthew 12.23; Matthew 15.22;
Matthew 20.30-31; Matthew 22.42)
When Jesus entered into Jerusalem
on the donkey, we read:
Matthew 21:9 “9 The
crowds going ahead of Him, and those who followed, were shouting, “Hosanna to
the Son of David; BLESSED IS HE WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD; Hosanna in
the highest!””
By doing this, the crowds were acknowledging
Jesus as the Messiah by quoting from Psalm118.
Because of this public
acknowledgement of Jesus as the Messiah (which by the way was the first time
that Jesus ever allowed people to publicly acknowledge Him as the Messiah), the
chief priest and scribes were extremely upset! (Matthew 21.15)
One day, Yeshua Ben-David, Jesus the Son of David will rule
and reign on this earth (Revelation 20.01-06).
Maranatha (1Corinthians 16.22), come quickly LORD Jesus!
