Titus 01.03-04 | Jesus the Saviour pt01

This week we see Jesus the Saviour in 03 ways…01. The Word of God Manifested (Titus 01.03a); 02. The Proclamation of Salvation (Titus 01.03b); & 03. The Gracious Giver (Titus 01.04).

01. The Word of God Manifested (Titus 01.03a)
Titus 01.03a “3 but at the proper time manifested, even His word…”

Or more accurately in the original Greek it reads something like this, “3 but at the proper time manifested His word…”

“3 proper” G2398. idiov idios id'-ee-os; of uncertain affinity; pertaining to self, i.e. one's own; by implication, private or separate:-- X his acquaintance, when they were alone, apart, aside, due, his (own, proper, several), home, (her, our, thine, your) own (business), private(-ly), proper, severally, their (own).

Thayer-at a time suitable to the matter in hand

“3 time” G2540. kairov kairos kahee-ros'; of uncertain affinity; an occasion, i.e. set or proper time:-- X always, opportunity, (convenient, due) season, (due, short, while) time, a while. Compare 5550.

Thayer-at its proper time

What is Paul talking about “3 …at the proper time manifested His word”?

It starts in the Garden of Eden.

Titus 01.03a “3 but at the proper time manifested, even His word…”

God speaking to the serpent (Satan) after the fall of man…
Genesis 03.15 “15 And I will put enmity Between you & the woman, And between your seed & her seed; He shall bruise you on the head, And you shall bruise him on the heel.””

Daniel 09.24-27 “24 “Seventy weeks have been decreed for your people & your holy city, to finish the transgression, to make an end of sin, to make atonement for iniquity, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision & prophecy & to anoint the most holy place. 25 “So you are to know & discern that from the issuing of a decree to restore & rebuild Jerusalem until Messiah the Prince there will be seven weeks & sixty-two weeks; it will be built again, w/plaza & moat, even in times of distress. 26 “Then after the sixty-two weeks the Messiah will be cut off & have nothing, & the people of the prince who is to come will destroy the city & the sanctuary. And its end will come w/a flood; even to the end there will be war; desolations are determined. 27 “And he will make a firm covenant w/the many for one week, but in the middle of the week he will put a stop to sacrifice & grain offering; & on the wing of abominations will come one who makes desolate, even until a complete destruction, one that is decreed, is poured out on the one who makes desolate.””

Habakkuk 02.03 “3 “For the vision is yet for the appointed time; It hastens toward the goal & it will not fail. Though it tarries, wait for it; For it will certainly come, it will not delay.”

Galatians 04.04 “4 But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law,”

1Timothy 02.06 “6 who gave Himself as a ransom for all, the testimony given at the proper time.”

Romans 05.06 “6 For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.”

2Timothy 01.10 “10 but now has been revealed by the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who abolished death & brought life & immortality to light through the gospel,”

“3 manifested,” G5319. fanerow phaneroo fan-er-o'-o; from 5318; to render apparent (literally or figuratively):-- appear, manifestly declare, (make) manifest (forth), shew (self).
G5318. fanerov phaneros fan-er-os'; from 5316; shining, i.e. apparent (literally or figuratively); neuter (as adverb) publicly, externally:-- abroad, + appear, known, manifest, open [+ -ly], outward ([+ -ly]).
G5316. fainw phaino fah'-ee-no; prolongation for the base of 5457; to lighten (shine), i.e. show (transitive or intransitive, literal or figurative):-- appear, seem, be seen, shine, X think.
G5457. fwv phos foce; from an obsolete faw phao (to shine or make manifest, especially by rays; compare 5316, 5346); luminousness (in the widest application, nat. or artificial, abstract or concrete, literal or figurative):-- fire, light.

Thayer-of God giving instruction through the preachers of the gospel

This word in the original Greek is written in the Aorist tense, Active voice, Indicative mood (5656)…
Aorist tense= the concept of the verb is considered w/o regard for past, present, or future time.
Active voice= The active voice represents the subject as the doer or performer of the action.  e.g., in the sentence, “The boy hit the ball,” the boy performs the action.
Indicative mood= The indicative mood is a simple statement of fact. If an action really occurs or has occurred or will occur, it will be rendered in the indicative mood.

What this means is that God manifested Himself as the Word of God. God manifested Himself as the Word of God through Jesus!
John 01.01-18 “1 In the beginning was the Word (G3056. logov logos log'-os), & the Word (G3056. logov logos log'-os) was w/God, & the Word (G3056. logov logos log'-os) was God. 2 He was in the beginning w/God. 3 All things came into being through Him, & apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. 4 In Him was life, & the life was the Light of men. 5 The Light shines in the darkness, & the darkness did not comprehend it. 6 There came a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 He came as a witness, to testify about the Light, so that all might believe through him. 8 He was not the Light, but he came to testify about the Light. 9 There was the true Light which, coming into the world, enlightens every man. 10 He was in the world, & the world was made through Him, & the world did not know Him. 11 He came to His own, & those who were His own did not receive Him. 12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, 13 who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. 14 And the Word (G3056. logov logos log'-os) became flesh, & dwelt among us, & we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace & truth. 15 John *testified about Him & cried out, saying, “This was He of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me has a higher rank than I, for He existed before me.’” 16 For of His fullness we have all received, & grace upon grace. 17 For the Law was given through Moses; grace & truth were realized through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has seen God at any time; the only begotten God who is in the bosom of the Father, He has explained Him.
Titus 01.03a “3 but at the proper time manifested, even His word…”

Interesting that the JW’s in their New World Translation (NWT) translate this passage…
John 01.01In the beginning the Word was, & the Word was w/God, & the Word was a god.” (NWT)

Remember what John said…
1John 02.22-23 “22 Who is the liar but the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, the one who denies the Father & the Son. 23 Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father; the one who confesses the Son has the Father also.”

“3 word,” G3056. logov logos log'-os; from 3004; something said (including the thought); by implication a topic (subject of discourse), also reasoning (the mental faculty) or motive; by extension, a computation; specifically (w/the article in John) the Divine Expression (i.e. Christ):-- account, cause, communication, X concerning, doctrine, fame, X have to do, intent, matter, mouth, preaching, question, reason, + reckon, remove, say(-ing), shew, X speaker, speech, talk, thing, + none of these things move me, tidings, treatise, utterance, word, work.
G3004. legw lego leg'-o; a primary verb; properly, to "lay" forth, i.e. (figuratively) relate (in words [usually of systematic or set discourse; whereas 2036 & 5346 generally refer to an individual expression or speech respectively; while 4483 is properly, to break silence merely, & 2980 means an extended or random harangue]); by implication, to mean:-- ask, bid, boast, call, describe, give out, name, put forth, say(-ing, on), shew, speak, tell, utter.

Thayer-w/gen. of the author, in an objective sense, what is communicated by instruction, doctrine (specifically the doctrine concerning the attainment through Christ of salvation in the kingdom of God)
