Where Will You Go?

Now in our daily reading (Genesis10-12) we come to the story of the Table of Nations (Ge10), the Tower of Babel (Ge11), & Abram receives the blessing from God, & journeys to Egypt in (Ge12).

What we will look at today is…
Genesis 12:8 “8 Then he proceeded from there to the mountain on the east of Bethel, and pitched his tent, w/Bethel on the west and Ai on the east; and there he built an altar to the LORD and called upon the name of the LORD.”

The word “Bethel” means “House of God”.

The word “Ai” means “ruin, place of destruction”.

Going to the House of God daily means spending time in His Word, praying, & memorizing Scripture.
Psalms 4:3 “3 But know that the LORD has set apart the godly man for Himself; The LORD hears when I call to Him.”

“set apart” means to be distinct, to be marked out, to be separated & be distinguished.

The godly man is set apart for the LORD by spending time at Bethel.

The place of ruin is obviously doing our own thing whenever we want. Not going to the House of God & spending time in the Word. Maybe it’s sleeping a little extra, or watching some more TV.

It interesting to note as well that “Ai” is pronounced “I” in Hebrew. We are always going to go to the place of ruin when we choose what we (I) want to do!

Everyday we have the choice to spend our time going to “Bethel” or to “Ai”. We can go to the House of God or to the place of ruin. Where will you go today?
