We now come to the very familiar story of the flood in Genesis07-09.
Now after the flood, the LORD makes a covenant w/Noah (& all of mankind). That covenant of course is that He will never again destroy the Earth w/a worldwide flood (Ge09.08-11).
Let’s look at what He says about the sign of the covenant…
Genesis 9:13 “13 I set My bow in the cloud, & it shall be for a sign of a covenant between Me & the earth.”
The Hebrew word for “bow” here is “qesheth” which means a battle bow.
The rainbow arcs like a battle bow hung against the clouds. The bow is now “put away”, hung in place by the clouds.
What this suggests to us is that the battle (the storm) is over.
Just like when Jesus walked on the water & calmed the storm (Matthew14.22-33).
Jesus said to His disciples…
John 14:27 “27 “Peace I leave w/you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.”
John 16:33 “33 “These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.””
So every time you see the rainbow, remember the covenant of God & that it speaks of peace.
