Now in our daily reading (Exodus13-15) we see Yahweh leading His people, & He rescues them the
Rough the parting of the Red Sea, than Moses’ song & Yahweh provides water for the people.
Exodus 13:1-16 Yahweh speaks to Moses & tells him all the firstborn are to be sanctified (to set apart) to Him. The reason for this all is to be reminded that Yahweh delivered the children Israel from Egypt after all the firstborn of the sons of Egypt (see last blog post) were killed.
Exodus 13:17-22 Now here we see that “God did not lead them by the way of the land of the Philistines, even though it was near; for God said, “The people might change their minds when they see war, & return to Egypt.” What this means is that even though is was a more direct route to the Promised Land, God wanted to protect them because of this route, it was lined w/Egyptian fortresses. So obviously the soldiers would be prepared to recapture the children of Israel, & bring them back to Egypt!
What we see here is that when God leads us (which should be always!), even though we think it might be a more direct route, He knows what is best! We might not see the “Egyptian fortresses” that line our route, but He does, & He is going to protect & guide us!
We also see that Yahweh lead them “in a pillar of cloud by day to lead them on the way & in a pillar of fire by night to give them light.”
This shows us that He is always leading His people, even today. Sure, a pillar of cloud by day & a pillar of light by night would be great, but we have the written Word of God people! God speaks through His Word! The problem is, too many CHRISTians are Bible illiterate! O you know the Gospels, but do you know Leviticus? How about Numbers? Or even this part of Exodus?
Exodus 14:1-12 Pharaoh waked up from mourning the loss of his son, & hears that the children of Israel, his entire workface, just has left, & isn’t going the direct route to the Promised Land & that they are going directly to the Red Sea. So he gets his army, & what does the children of Israel do? The fight like madmen & destroy the…o wait wrong story! They freak out! Hmm, I think I know people (me! Insert sad face cause I don’t do sad faces) who freak out when they feel like they are sitting ducks, waiting for their Pharaoh to kill them!
Exodus 14:13-20 So Moses tells the children of Israel to chill out & see Yahweh save them.
Exodus 14:14 “14 “The LORD will fight for you while you keep silent.”” How often that its just best to keep our mouths shut & watch what Yahweh will do! During this time, that pillar that guided them went behind them, so it was between the 02 camps, but it gave light only to Israel that night.
Exodus 14:21-31 So after Moses raised his staff like Yahweh commanded, & Yahweh divided the sea all night, & Israel walked through on dry ground. With an estimated population of 2 or 3 million people, if they went on a narrow path, double filer, the line would be about 800 miles long & would require about 35 days & nights to get through! So there had to be a space so wide in the Red Sea, probably about 03 miles wide so that they could walk 5000 abreast to get through in one night! And they walked on dry ground (Exodus14.22) as well!
So of courser seeing this, Pharaoh charged ahead, & Yahweh “…caused their chariot wheels to swerve, & He made them drive w/difficulty; so the Egyptians said, “Let us flee from Israel, for the LORD is fighting for them against the Egyptians.”” (Exodus14.25) That’s awesome!
Quick note, many people w/a bunch of initials after their names insist that the sea that the children of Israel really crossed was the Sea of Reeds. I’m not going to argue w/them cause I’m not that smart, but I feel sorry for those Egyptians who all drowned in 03 or 04 feet of water!
Exodus 15:1-19 A song of victory by Moses celebrating the protection of Yahweh & the defeat of Egypt. In fact, when the Jews recites this song today, they do it standing up & w/great joy!
Some highlights…
Exodus 15:2, 3 “2 “The LORD is my strength & song, And He has become my salvation; This is my God, & I will praise Him; My father’s God, & I will extol Him. 3 “The LORD is a warrior; The LORD is His name.”
Yahweh is a warrior & He fights for us! How cool is that?
Exodus 15:13 “13 “In Your lovingkindness You have led the people whom You have redeemed; In Your strength You have guided them to Your holy habitation.”
It is because of His love that He saves His people!
Exodus 15:18 “18 “The LORD shall reign forever & ever.””
Need I say more?
Exodus 15:20-21 Miriam wants to show people that not only can her brother bust out w/a song, so can she!
Exodus 15:22-27 Hear we see a new name of God mentioned in Exodus15.26. “the Lord your healer” = Yahweh-rapha. We see this name because the children of Israel were thirsty, came to the waters of Marah, which means bitter, & that was a perfect name for those waters cause they were bitter. The bitter waters were made sweet when the tree was thrown in, directed by the healer (Yahweh rapha). Our bitter waters are made sweet by the Healer who died on the tree/cross (Galatians03.13)!
