Now in our daily reading (Exodus22-24) we see various laws, why Yahweh is driving the inhabitants of Canaan, & worshiping God from a distance.
Exodus22 The laws concerning property. You will see that as you read through this that the law strongly affirmed the right to both life & having property.
Exodus22.18 This deals w/not allowing a sorceress to live. A sorceress is one who practices magic, witchcraft & do spells or curses. More verses regarding this matter are Leviticus19.26,31, Leviticus20.06,27; Deuteronomy18.10-11; 1Samuel28.03,09; Isaiah19.03; Acts08.09-11; Acts16.16-19; Acts19.19; Galatians05.20; Revelation22.15.
Exodus22.19 Now this seems gross, bestiality. But this was a common practice in the worship of the Canaanite god Baal.
Exodus22.29 We should give unto God what belongs to Him, & we shouldn’t waste time in doing it!
Exodus23 The need for justice, the law of the Sabbaths, the 03 annual feasts (Feast of Unleavened Bread, Feast of Harvest, & the Feast of Ingathering).
Exodus23.10-13 The seventh year rest (or “Sabbath”) for the land is practiced even today, so as not to over use the land & give it rest. Interesting that this is one of the reasons why Israel was led into captivity of 70 years in Babylon (2Chronicles36.21; Jeremiah25.11)!
Exodus23.19b This prohibition was given probably because of religious practices in which the Canaanites cooked goats in their mothers’ milk in a fertility rite. So obviously God didn’t want His people to take part in this idolatrous worship.
Exodus23.32-33 Seeing some of the gross practices of the Canaanites, you can now see why God said He was driving them out of the land & giving it to the children of Israel. (Genesis15.16)
Exodus24 The nation of Israel promises obedience.
But sadly, they had to worship him from a distance (24.01-02). Praise the LORD that we don’t have to worship Him from a distance anymore! When Jesus shouted, “It is finished!” (John19.20), the veil of the Temple was torn in two from top to bottom, thus showing it was an act from God & not man (Matthew27.51; Mark15.28). Now that the wall of separation between God & us is broken, we can come freely to Him (Ephesians02.11-22). Jesus said it is through Him that we enter & be saved (John10.07,09; John14.06).
