04. Young Women (Titus 02.04b-05)
Here it is plain to see that
Paul is talking to the young women in the church who are married.
Here is another place in
Scripture that God’s Word clearly contradicts the prevailing thoughts of
today’s society where there is “Girl Power” etc.
In the name of women’s rights,
the feminist movement of the last 40 years or so has done its best to subvert
the Word of God, & sadly many women in the church are in complete agreement
to what society says & are either ignorant to what God says, or they choose
to ignore it.
Most women do not see that the
feminist movement is Satanic, subverting the Word of God, seeing that this is
all part of Satan’s strategy to undermine God’s Will & plan.
This actually began in the
Garden of Eden, when Satan tempted Eve & she rebelled 1st
against God & then against her husband (Genesis 03.01-24).
Ever since she decided to do her
own thing, to be independent, she helped lead the entire human race into sin (Genesis
03.01-24).
After she sinned, God said that
her that “…Yet
your desire will be for your husband, And he will rule over you.” (Genesis 03.16)
What this literally translates
is “Though you may desire to control your
husband”. This is the same word used in the next chapter when the LORD
warned Cain that sin wanted to master Cain, & that Cain needed to master
sin.
Genesis 04.07 “7 “If you do well, will not your countenance be lifted up? And if you do not do well, sin is
crouching at the door; & its desire (to compel, urge, seek
control over)
is for you, but you must master it.””
Women have a sinful tendency to
try to usurp man’s authority, & men have a sinful tendency to put women
under their feet.
So Paul continues on by saying
that older women are to be examples, teach & encourage the younger women.
The 1st way that
older women are to teach the younger women is to…Titus 02.04 “4 to love their husbands”
“4 to love their husbands” G5362. filandrov philandros fil'-an-dros; from 5384 & 435; fond of man, i.e.
affectionate as a wife:-- love their husbands.
The Greek word that is used here is a noun & means a
willing, determined love that is not based on a husband’s worthiness but based
on God’s command, which is displayed by the wife’s obedient & affectionate
heart.
This means that even the most depraved, unlovable, uncaring
husband is to be loved.
As difficult as it might seem, we are called as followers of
Jesus to love one another, including our spouses! (Philippians 02.02-04)
When you sacrificially serve others & put their
interests above others, God gives you a love for them.
This is the opposite of what
society says to women, who instead are encouraged by older women to find
fulfillment in fantasy harlequin novels or movies, & trash talk about their
bum of a husband.
Notice again what Paul, writing
under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit wrote…
Titus 02.04 “4 so that they may encourage the
young women to love their husbands…”
There are no conditions or
exceptions here. No “Get Out of Jail, Free” card.
Jesus said,
John 14.15 “15 “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.”
John 14.21 “21 “He who has My commandments & keeps them is the one who loves Me;
& he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, & I will love him &
will disclose Myself to him.””
A healthy church will have a
strong witness to the unsaved world because its members are obedient to the
commands of the LORD.
The 2nd way that older women are to teach the
younger women is to…“to love their children,”
“love their children,” G5388.
filoteknov philoteknos fil-ot'-ek-nos;
from 5384
& 5043; fond of one's children, i.e. maternal:-- love their children.
Just like loving husbands,
loving children is not an option.
“5 to be sensible,
pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the
word of God will not be dishonored.”
The 3rd way that
older women are to teach the younger women is to…
“5 to be
sensible,” G4998. swfrwn sophron so'-frone; from the
base of 4982 & that of 5424; safe (sound) in mind, i.e. self-controlled (moderate as
to opinion or passion):-- discreet, sober, temperate.
Thayer-of sound
mind, curbing one’s desires & impulses, self-controlled, temperate
This is the same quality that
Paul said should be true of elders (1Timothy 03.02; Titus 01.08).
“5 to be
sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so
that the word of God will not be dishonored.”
The 4th way that
older women are to teach the younger women is to be…“5 pure,”
“5 pure,” G53. agnov
hagnos hag-nos'; from the same as 40; properly, clean,
i.e. (figuratively) innocent, modest, perfect:-- chaste, clean, pure.
Refers to primarily being morally pure, such as sexual
purity.
Paul said that women are to…
1Timothy 02.09-10 “9 Likewise, I
want women to adorn themselves w/proper clothing, modestly &
discreetly, not w/braided hair & gold or pearls or costly garments, 10 but
rather by means of good works, as is proper for women making a claim to
godliness.”
Peter said something similar…
1Peter 03.03-06 “3 Your adornment must not be merely external--braiding the hair, & wearing gold jewelry, or
putting on dresses; 4 but let it be
the hidden person of the heart, w/the imperishable quality of a gentle &
quiet spirit, which is precious in the sight of God. 5 For in this way in
former times the holy women also, who hoped in God, used to adorn themselves,
being submissive to their own husbands; 6 just as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling
him lord, & you have become her children if you do what is right w/o being
frightened by any fear.”
“5 to be
sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so
that the word of God will not be dishonored.”
The 5th way that
older women are to teach the younger women is to be…“5 workers at home”
“5 workers at home” G3626.
oikourov oikouros oy-koo-ros';
from 3624
& ourov ouros (a guard; be "ware"); a stayer at home,
i.e. domestically inclined (a "good housekeeper"):-- keeper at home.
Thayer-keeping
at home & taking care of household affairs, domestic
One of the hardest things for
women today to do is be content w/their calling as a homemaker. Our culture
says that if you are a homemaker, you are wasting your life, your degree &
your time.
According to the United States
Department of Labor, Quick Stats on Women Workers, 2010:
Of the 123 million women age 16 years &
over in the U.S., 72 million, or 58.6 percent, were labor force
participants—working or looking for work.
The labor force participation rate of mothers w/children
under 18 years of age was 70.9 percent in March 2011.
The point is not that a woman’s
place is in the home, but her responsibility is for the home. This should be
her highest priority.
“5 to be
sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so
that the word of God will not be dishonored.”
The 6th way that
older women are to teach the younger women is to…“5 kind”
“5 kind” meaning that they are to be gentle &
sympathetic, even w/those who are undeserving & unkind to them.
Truly, being kind is being like God. (Luke 06.35; Ephesians 04.32)
“5 to be
sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so
that the word of God will not be dishonored.”
The 7th way that
older women are to teach the younger women is to be…“subject to their own husbands”
“5 being subject” G5293.
upotassw hupotasso hoop-ot-as'-so;
from 5259
& 5021; to subordinate; reflexively, to obey:-- be under obedience (obedient),
put under, subdue unto, (be, make) subject (to, unto), be (put) in subjection
(to, under), submit self unto.
Thayer-to
subject one’s self, to obey; to submit to one’s control; to yield to one’s
admonition or advice
Paul talks about this, saying
that the wives are to be subject to their husbands as the Church is subject to
Christ. (Ephesians
05.22-24; 1Corinthians 15.27; Ephesians 01.22)
“5 to be
sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so
that the word of God will not be dishonored.”
Having the young women taught
& encouraged to “4 … to love their husbands, to love their children, 5 to be sensible, pure, workers at home,
kind, being subject to their own husbands…” (Titus 02.04-05) causes the Word of
God to be honored & not dishonored.
“5 be dishonored.” G987.

So that God’s Word may suffer no scandal
Nathan, confronting David w/his
sin w/Bathsheba & the murder of her husband Uriah, said this…
2Samuel 12.09-11 “9 ‘Why have you despised the word of the LORD by doing
evil in His sight? You have struck down Uriah the Hittite w/the sword, have
taken his wife to be your wife, & have killed him w/the sword of the sons
of Ammon. 10 ‘Now therefore, the sword shall never depart from your house,
because you have despised Me & have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to
be your wife.’ 11 “Thus says the LORD, ‘Behold, I will raise up evil against
you from your own household; I will even take your wives before your eyes &
give them to your companion, & he
will lie w/your wives in broad daylight.”
2Samuel 12.14 “14 “However, because by this deed you have given
occasion to the enemies of the LORD to blaspheme, the child also that is born
to you shall surely die.””
The world judges the truth &
power of the Word of God by how we talk, act & live.
Jesus said,
Matthew 05.16 “16 “Let your light shine before men in such a way that they
may see your good works, & glorify your Father who is in heaven.”
Paul said,
Philippians 02.14-15 “14 Do all things w/o grumbling or disputing; 15 so that
you will prove yourselves to be blameless & innocent, children of God above
reproach in the midst of a crooked & perverse generation, among whom you
appear as lights in the world,”
Peter said that we are to be
holy because God is holy
1Peter 01.16 “16 because it is written, “YOU SHALL BE HOLY, FOR I AM
HOLY.””
1Peter 02.09 “9 But you are A CHOSEN RACE, A royal PRIESTHOOD, A HOLY
NATION, A PEOPLE FOR God’s OWN
POSSESSION, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you
out of darkness into His marvelous light;”
Paul told Titus 04 aspects of A
Healthy Church…01. Teachers (Titus 02.01);
02. Older Men (Titus 02.02); 03. Older Women (Titus 02.03-04a); 04. Young Women (Titus 02.04b-05);
LORD willing next week we will
look at “A Healthy Church” part 02 Titus 02.06-10
05. Young Men (Titus 02.06-08); & 06. Bondslaves (Titus 02.09-10).
