Job 09.33 l THERE IS A MEDIATOR

Today’s reading: Job 09.01-12.25

Job 09.33 “33 “There is no umpire between us, Who may lay his hand upon us both.”
In today’s reading,

In today’s reading, we see Job’s first reply to Bildad (Job09.01-10.22), Zohar rebukes Job (Job11.01-20) and Job begins his first reply to Zohar (Job12.01-25).

Job thought that he had no mediator. Job wanted and desired for there to be an umpire, a mediator in his situation. We have seen previously that Esther was encouraged by Mordecai to be the mediator of her people to save them from the plot of Haman (Esther 03.07-15; Esther 04.08; Esther 04.13-14).

But a human mediator was not good enough, for sinful man needs a mediator between man and God. Being a mediator means that the mediator is approachable (Hebrews 04.16). A mediator is one who can put his hand on both (Job 09.32-33), meaning he not only can listen impartially but he is also able to relate to both parties. Much like Jesus, who became a man, yet was still God (Philippians 02.06-07). While He was here on earth, Jesus never ceased being completely God and never ceased being equal in essence with God the Father (Matthew 17.02; John 05.18; John 10.30-33; John 14.09; John 20.28).

Our LORD and Saviour interceded on behalf of all mankind by taking our place on the cross, and is mediating daily for us at the right hand of God (Isaiah 53.12; Luke 23.34; Romans 08.34; 1Timothy 02.05; Hebrews 07.25; Hebrews 08.06; Hebrews 09.15; Hebrews 09.24; Hebrews 12.24; 1John 02.01-02; 1John 02.12).
