Job 19.25 l MY REDEEMER LIVES

Today’s reading: Job 17.01-20.29

Job 19.25 “25 “As for me, I know that my Redeemer lives, And at the last He will take His stand on the earth.”

In today’s reading, we see that Job is broken (Job 17.01-16), Bildad speaks of the wicked being punished essentially saying that Job is being punished because he is wicked (Job 18.01-21). Job 19.01-29 records probably the lowest moment of Job’s life (Job 19.01-22), but also one of his highest (Job 19.23-29). Job 20.01-29 reveals Zophar’s second speech.

In Job 19.23-24, Job wishes that an everlasting document of his words of innocence be written down, so that both present and future generations would know his innocence. Hmm…I wonder what document that could be…how about the BIBLE!?

In Job 19.25, Job acknowledged despite how low he just was (Job 19.01-22), that his Redeemer lives. Though Job believed (erroneously) that God was against him, he knew that God was the only one who could justify his innocence.

Even though Job would eventually die, his Redeemer, our Redeemer still lives!

The Hebrew word for Redeemer is H1350. lag ga’al gaw-al' which means to redeem, to buy back a relative’s property.

The Kinsman Redeemer is mentioned throughout the Bible (Leviticus 25.22-25; Ruth 03.01-18; Hebrews 02.11-18; Hebrews 10.04)

There were four requirements of a Kinsman Redeemer…
01. Blood relative
02. Not be in debt
03. Be able to pay the price of redemption
04. Be willing

The Book of Ruth provides a great picture of this when Boaz “redeemed” Ruth & Naomi.

But of course an even greater example is that of Jesus the Christ.
01. Blood relative John 01.14; Romans 01.03; Romans 08.03; Galatians 04.04; Philippians 02.06-08; Hebrews 02.14-17; Hebrews 04.15

02. Not be in debt Isaiah 53.09; 2Corinthians 05.21; Hebrews 04.15; Hebrews 07.26; 1Peter 02.22; 1John 03.05

03. Be able to pay the price of redemption Matthew 27.54; Mark 01.01; Mark 03.11; Mark 15.39; Luke 01.35; John 01.34; John 01.49; Acts 08.37; 1John 05.13

04. Be willing John 10.15-18; Philippians 02.06-08; 1John 03.16

Jesus is the ga’al of the human race and our Redeemer lives!
Psalms 19.14; Psalms 78.35; Proverbs 23.10-11; Isaiah 44.06; Isaiah 44.24; Isaiah 48.17; Isaiah 49.07; Isaiah 54.05; Jeremiah 50.33-34
