Involved With the Emergent Church
Tilden Edwards (Founder
of the Shalem Institute)
Pierre Teilhard de Chardin (pantheistic
Jesuit mystic)
Lynne Hybels is very connected to the
Marxist-leaning, liberal machine of Jim Wallis’ SoJourners. She is a
regular writer for SoJourners magazine & shows her affinity w/JimWallis in the things she writes.
The Lily Endowment (which
helped fund the (Peter) Drucker Foundation, which has a
relationship w/Golden Gate Seminary, Bethel Seminary & SaddlebackChurch. Tony Jones, Brian McLaren, & DougPagitt have benefited from this foundation.))
Spiritual Directors International (SDI) is
an interspiritual “learning community committed to advancing spiritual
direction around the world” w/a membership that “consists of people from many nations &
many faiths.” According to SDI, spiritual direction is “the
contemplative practice of helping another person or group to awaken to the
mystery called God in all of life,” & they respond “to this call
by tending the holy around the world & across traditions.”
The Association of Christian SchoolsInternational (ACSI). In July of 2013, in Colorado Springs, ACSI
will be presenting the “2013 ACSI Leadership Academy.” The theme at this year’s
annual event is “Spiritual Formation:
Christian Schools Matter”! The keynote speaker will be Dr. James C. Wilhoit,
author of Spiritual Formation as if theChurch Mattered (a copy of this book will be mailed to every person who
registers). Each attendee will also receive 01 semester hour of graduate credit
from GeorgeFox University (which is 01 of the most contemplative colleges
out there today). In the past ACSI has recommended the reading of Henri Nouwen & Brian McLaren.
In James Wilhoit’s book, Spiritual Formation as if the Church Mattered (the book that ACSI will be giving out
to members), the book is full of references & quotes by some of today’s
most faithful & influential contemplative names: Dallas Willard (who wrote
the foreword), Adele Ahlberg Calhoun, Ruth Haley Barton (trained at the
interspiritual Shalem Institute), David Benner, Kenneth Boa, Richard Foster, Emilie Griffin, Brother Lawrence, Henri Nouwen, Eugene Peterson, Pete Scazzero, Klaus Issler, & MarjorieThompson (Soul Feast).
James Wilhoit’s book is basically a textbook on emerging
spirituality & contemplative prayer it affirms the
teachings of the names which it includes.
James Wilhoit is currently a professor of “Christian
Formation & Ministry” at Wheaton College.
Vision Statement: Grounded
in our understanding of God’s desire for peace, wholeness & well-being, we
envision a world transformed by contemplative living & leadership in which
all people honor one another & creation, recognize their unity &
interconnectedness, & courageously seek to live out of this reality.
Ruth Haley Barton
was trained at the Shalem Institute & after that became the Associate
Director of Spiritual Formation at Willow Creek. Once on staff, she
collaborated w/John Ortberg to create the Spiritual Formation curriculum for WillowCreek
