Job 35.09-11 l WHERE IS GOD MY MAKER?

Today’s reading: Job 34.01-37.24

Job 35.09-11 “9 “Because of the multitude of oppressions they cry out; They cry for help because of the arm of the mighty. 10 “But no one says, ‘Where is God my Maker, Who gives songs in the night, 11 Who teaches us more than the beasts of the earth And makes us wiser than the birds of the heavens?’”

In today’s reading, we have Elihu’s second speech (Job 34.01-37), Elihu’s third speech (Job 35.01-16) and Elihu’s fourth speech (Job 36.01-37.24)

When people are going through hard times (“multitude of oppressions”) they often turn to God asking Him for Divine help to relieve them of the current hardship.

Sadly, the majority of the time when people do that, they only look at Him as their 9-1-1, break the glass in case of an emergency God. Instead, they ought to be looking to Him as their Maker.

The Hebrew word for Maker here is H6213. hse ‘asah aw-saw’; to do or make. This is the same Hebrew word that is used to describe the LORD creating all of creation (translated as “made” in Genesis 01.07, Genesis 01.16, and Genesis 01.25).

This is the same word that is used of the creation of man.
Genesis 01.26 “26 Then God said, “Let Us make (H6213. hse ‘asah aw-saw’) man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.””

It is also the same word that is used of God seeing all that He made and calling it good.
Genesis 01.31 “31 God saw all that He had made (H6213. hse ‘asah aw-saw’), and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.”

God our Maker is the only One who can give joy in times of trouble (“songs in the night” Job 35.10).

Elihu also says that most of humanity never expresses any form of gratitude to the LORD for giving them more intelligence (“makes us wiser” Job 35.11) than what all the animals have.
