Now in our daily reading (Deuteronomy01-05) we see the beginning of a book of farewell messages by Moses addressed to the new generation who are entering into the Promised Land. Moses expounds on the Law given on Mt. Sinai to the new generation. Also known as “five-fifths of the Law” because it is the last of the five books of Moses.
The Book of Deuteronomy is quoted more times by Jesus than any other book.
We will look mainly at…
Deuteronomy01.21 “See, the LORD your God has placed the land before you; go up, take possession, as the LORD, the God of your fathers, has spoken to you. Do not fear or be dismayed.’”
Moses is reminding this new generation, that YHWH has put them in the Promised Land & wants them to take possession of the land that He has given them.
Today, as followers of Jesus, many of us are in places where we would never describe it as the “Promised Land”. We need to realize that we are “not of this world” (John08.23). This world is not our home (John15.19; John17.14; Philippians03.20; 1Peter02.11-12).
The problem is that we sit where God has us, & complain about the giants in the land like the children of Israel did (Numbers13.28-29; Deuteronomy01.28).
We are missing out on so many blessings because we fear man more than we fear the One who made us & brought us to the place where we are.
Remember the promises that He has spoken to you, & that we are commanded to not fear, but to go up & be who & what He has called us to be!
